King Man (Heartbeat) is the latest work from Blend Dem Productions and it's easily the most roots-oriented album in Everton Blender's catalog. The full band arrangements feature a variety of musicians from different backgrounds and were recorded at different locations. Heartbeat's own Chris Wilson produced most of the tracks while Lynford "Fatta" Marshall of Fat Eyes Records in Jamaica produced the others and engineered a good percentage of the tracks. Musicians include the classic horn section of Dean Fraser, David Madden, and Nambo Robinson, percussion playing by Joseph Hill of Culture, plus members of Shaggy's and Freddie McGregor's bands. The West Coast sessions include members from Hepcat, the Aggrolites, and the Vessells. The personnel list really does go on and on so read the liner notes and you'll be surprised at just who contributed to this project. I have a feeling it wasn't hard finding engineers and musicians to sign up, because Everton Blender really is a nice and kind person. One of the notable songs is "Tabernacle Tree." There's even a second, extended version with a dj section by the veteran toaster Trinity. The title track is one of Blender's best love songs, and you might just like the cover of "Little Green Apples." Another cover, "Is it Because I'm Black" is sure to move you as well. King Man features Everton Blender's best-ever cd and lp packaging and art, plus song lyrics. It's a regal package appropriate for the King Man!
