I like the organic and dubby sound of 10 Ft. Ganja Plant. Midnight Landing (ROIR) follows up their 2001 release, Hillside Airstrip. You gotta love the theming there. For the most part, their music is traditional reggae in a dubbed out style, although "Let the Music Hit" contains a cool, computer-affected vocal. But in general, any vocals on this album seep in and out of the mix. "Ganja Plane Rider" sounds like classic Specials from the 80s (think "Ghost Town"), complete with a trombone solo, long, drawn-out horn lines, and bubbling organ. "100 LB. Weight" and "Shine Dub" uses Augustus Pablo-style melodica. There's a string section on "Chanting Nyabinghi." "Righteous Dub" leaves you wondering what a Bob Marley vocal might have added to this classic-sounding reggae track. Credits are light, leaving you wondering who are the musicians and singers. We know 10 Ft. Ganja Plant is an offshoot of John Brown's Body, but we're still left to wonder what guests might be on Midnight Landing.
