One People

One People
formed - 1995
(Boston, Massachusetts, USA)

One People is all about rocking the house with positive sound power. Five musicians from the far ends of the earth unified into a single expression that is dedicated to the creation of uplifting original music.

A true global melting pot of sound, flavors from anywhere and everywhere appear, re-appear, combine, clarify, and blur. Tempos range from searing, high-octane rides to hypnotic sensual grooves. Influences include all Jamaican styles; ska, rock-steady, reggae, Rastafarian roots, dub, and dancehall; American styles; hip-hop, soul, funk, R&B, blues, jazz, alternative, and rock; European styles; punk, jungle, and drum and bass, and other assorted global grooves.

Up front of the One People sound are the large four-part vocal harmonies, group chants, traded lead vocals, and lyric displays. Four voices carrying the message of their originals and distinct "version" arrangements, sounds ranging from spitfire dancehall rap to soulful crooning, sweet reggae anthems and boisterous shot-outs. The energy level of the music is always kept bubbling in and around the maximum.

One People's origins are in Boston, Massachusetts, and go back to packed shows at The Channel and opening for James Brown and The Clash on college stages. One People has been the "Children of Funky Reggae" for a generation. The band proudly released their 2nd full length CD "From Within" late 1999 on the ONE Records label with distribution by Redeye USA. Their previous release, "One People"(1996), garnered national attention including an unprecedented 4 months charting on The Gavin Report. Today they live and record in Boston, Cambridge, perform across the Northeast, and are currently eyeing national and international stages.

One People, live on stage or on disc, a celebration of life for all people who love the music that hits the soul as well as the body and mind.

They have shared the stage with The Wailers, Culture, Jimmy Cliff, Eek-A-Mouse, Yami Bolo, Mutabaruka, MOE, Disco Biscuits, Jungle Brothers, Pharcyde, The Tubes, Pschedelic Furs, among many others. Driven by the passion of the rhythm, by the groove of hypnotic vibrations and by positive 'conscious' lyrical content, ONE PEOPLE is an experience that is an uplifting reaffirmation of life.
